EXERCISE
THE IMPORTANCE OF EXERCISE
There is a well-known saying ‘Make time for exercise or make time for illness later’ and it is so true. So often we go through life without giving a moment’s thought to the decisions we automatically make and the actions we take, only to pay for it later on and then wish we had! It is so easy to get carried away with the busyness of life and not get round to doing any exercise or make excuses because we are tired. Yet the fact is, exercise is good for our mind and body, and we all need to make time for it on a regular, weekly basis as it is so beneficial to our health and wellbeing.
LOOKING AFTER YOUR BODY
If you knew that you were only going to have one car for the whole of your life, you would really look after it, wouldn’t you! You would clean, service and MOT it regularly. Listen out for any problems and get them fixed at your local garage as soon as possible to keep it on the road. Your body is exactly the same, you won’t get another one in this lifetime, so you need to look after it to keep it functioning at optimal levels of performance.
WHY HIGH ACHIEVERS EXERCISE
Smart High Achievers who are serious about being the best they can be, know and value the importance of being physically active and exercising on a regular basis. However, because they are so busy and are always juggling a million and one things it can become another stressor on their mind and body and end up being counter-productive if they aren’t careful.
CREATING A REALISTIC EXERCISE PLAN
Stress as we know is the number one illness and disease of the 21st century, and needs to be kept to a minimum for optimum performance, health and wellness. With only 24 hours in a day, High Achievers know they need to work smarter not harder to be even more effective and productive. Creating a realistic exercise plan that you enjoy and that fits in well with your lifestyle is the key to your success because then you will stick to it.
THE TRUTH ABOUT EXERCISE
Doing the right kind of exercise at the right time is important because doing the wrong kind of exercise at the wrong time can be negative and stress the body further, making us more prone to injury. So High Achievers need to employ that intuitive self-awareness and really listen to what their body is telling them. Sometimes pushing yourself when you are a bit tired is okay, as the exercise releases those feel good hormones and recharges and re-energises the body giving us a boost. Whereas at other times, we may need to be smart and recognise that we need to give ourselves a break and either do something less strenuous or give it a miss altogether. The important point here is not to feel guilty and trust our own judgement. If exercise is feeling like a chore or another thing on your never-ending ‘To Do List’, then you know you need to either take some time out to let your mind and body recover or do something different and more relaxing.

MIND-BODY EXERCISE
Exercise such as Walking, Swimming, Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi etc. are all excellent too and give the body a break from more intensive, competitive types of exercise and sport. Of course, when you are on form and if you enjoy them, doing these in conjunction with other exercise is even better, as they give both your mind and body what they need to enhance health, wellbeing and success.
ENJOYING EXERCISE IS THE KEY
Enjoying exercise is the key to being motivated to do it. Most High Achievers are extremely competitive and often like to have a Personal Coach in their chosen sport so they can be the best they can be. They also realise that working with an Expert helps them to achieve their goals faster.
However, it is important to know when not to push yourself too hard and just have fun and enjoy yourself. If you are exercising, and in particular doing any type of competitive sport, and starting to find it stressful, then again it is becoming harmful to your mind and body and is therefore counter-productive. Stopping, taking a break and going back to it when you feel better is the sensible thing to do. Just keep listening to your mind and body because it is constantly talking to you and telling you what it needs. Over-ride these signs and you will regret it in the long run. Remember even High Achievers aren’t superhuman!
THE IMPORTANCE OF RECOVERY TIME
Allowing the body to recover in between doing regular, weekly exercise is also really important. As is getting good quality sleep so the mind and body can recharge, re-energise and heal itself at the cellular level. Hypnosis helps the body to do this, as it takes the mind and body into this mode even faster than sleep. Practising self-hypnosis on a regular basis (preferably daily), reaps unlimited benefits because the mind and body love it.
