  2. Intentions.
  3. Grit.
  4. Strategy.
  5. Execution.

Let’s take a look at each of these in more detail.

1. SELF-TALK

The conversations that we have with ourselves each and every day have a huge impact on our emotional and physical wellbeing which in turn affect how we think, feel and act. High Achievers recognise that to achieve and maintain levels of high performance you need to talk to yourself like a winner and always focus on what you do want rather than what you don’t. Self-belief, confidence and positive self-talk really will enhance your winning mindset and success. Furthermore, when you master your inner world and self-talk, it doesn’t matter what conversations you have with people in the outside world, you remain unaffected by any negativity, pessimism and criticism which is an extremely powerful position to be in.

2. INTENTIONS

Your intentions set the stage for how well you navigate the jungle of life and excel in both your personal and professional life. As a High Achiever you are constantly pushing yourself to be more, do more and achieve more which is why you are always thinking of bigger and better things that take you out of your comfort zone over and over again. It is therefore extremely important that you get comfortable with being uncomfortable because setting your sights high is where the real growth happens and dictates the way you show up in the world. So focus on your big dreams and take the necessary action to make them a reality. I guarantee you won’t regret it and will learn so much in the process. As Theodore Roosevelt said, “It is hard to fail, but it is worse to have never tried to succeed.”

3. GRIT

Whilst talent is important, the effort you are willing to apply to achieve your goals is even more so. As I previously mentioned, High Achievers do what it takes and never ever give up. This personality trait takes a lot of courage, determination and commitment and is evidence of real grit and staying power. Being passionate about what you do and persevering through the good times and the bad is the only way to ensure your long term success. No-one ever lost out from putting in hard work and effort to achieve their goals, even if the results and rewards of doing so weren’t immediately evident. High Achievers possess the ability to remain focused and committed to their goals for long periods of time which are often needed to achieve serious success. Unlike a lot of people who experience the initial passion and excitement when working on a new goal but when this wears off or things start to get tough they bail out. Grit and staying power can be learned and continually developed over time but true High Achievers naturally possess this quality, usually because of their personality type and life experiences.

4. STRATEGY

High Achievers know that when you set a goal you must follow it with a plan of action. Nothing happens otherwise, it is just an idea! So it is important to create the strategy which will break the goal down into small manageable, achievable chunks to ensure that you don’t get overwhelmed by the enormity of it but keep making progress. Scheduling tasks and outcomes will help to keep you on track and ensure your success. Flexibility is also key, as sometimes things happen that present us with other opportunities we hadn’t thought of but which we should consider and potentially take advantage of. The main thing to remember is that we need to be open to feedback, see what is working well and what is not working so well and adapt our course if needbe, embracing innovation along the way. As the saying goes, “Fail to plan and you plan to fail!”

5. EXECUTION

So now you have the big dream, are in a positive mindset and are all fired up to achieve your goal with a strategy in place…the next step is taking the required action. This is what sets the High Achievers apart from the rest because creating a strategy is one thing but executing it is another. That takes real guts, grit and determination. As William Shedd said, “A ship in the harbour is safe, but that’s not what ships are built for.” Of course even High Achievers have days when they don’t feel like working, aren’t as productive or feel discouraged but they never ever give up. They usually just come down a gear or two which is still way above what the average person achieves in a day because they are performing in a whole different league. When you take action you build trust and confidence in yourself and more importantly move closer to your desired outcome.
